1. Introduction

     Using Red Flag Task Scheduler, you can schedule any scripts or programs to run at the most convenient time. Every time after the Linux system boots, the task schedule daemon (cron) starts and runs at the background. Note, scheduled tasks cannot be X-window based.

2. Concepts

2.1 Task Types:

System Task System tasks scheduled by root
Custom Task

System tasks scheduled by root

One Time Task

One time tasks scheduled by root

Predefined Task

Default system tasks scheduled for monthly, weekly, daily, or hourly execution

User Task

Scheduled tasks of system users

3. View Scheduled Tasks

3.1 View The Task Queue of a Task Type

Selected the task type in the left pane of the main window. Scheduled tasks will be listed on the right.

4. Add Scheduled Task

4.1 Add Custom Task

1. Select Common Task in the left pane. Right click to pop up the context menu (or right click in the right pane). Click Add to display the wizard.

2. Specify Command and Comment. Command can either be input directly into the text field or be selected from the file dialog popped up by click the button next to the text field. Click Next to specify execution schedule.

3. Select schedule type, click Next.

4. Specify execution time, then click Next.

5. After execution time is specified, click Next. Now the new scheduled task has been added. It will be show in the task queue.

4.2 Add One Time Task

1. Select Oneshot Task in the left pane. Right click to pop up the context menu (or right click in the right pane). Click Add.

4.3 Add Predefined Task

1. Select Predefine Task in the left pane. Right click to pop up the context menu (or right click in the right pane). Click Add.

4.4 Add User Task

1. Select a user name under User in the left pane. Right click to pop up the context menu (or right click in the right pane). Click Add to display the wizard.

5. Edit Scheduled Task

Predefined tasks cannot be edited.

5.1 Edit Custom Task

1. Select a schedule type (hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly) under Predefine Task in the left pane. Right click to pop up the context menu (or right click in the right pane). Click Add to display the wizard.

Note:

You can edit the contents, scheduled running time, and running status of the task.

5.2 Edit One Time  Task

1. Select Oneshot Task in the left pane. Select the task to edit in the right pane. Right click to pop up the context menu. Click Edit (or double click the selected task) to edit it.

Note:

Scheduled execution time cannot be edited here.

5.3 Edit User Task

1. Select a user name in the left pane. Select a scheduled task in the right pane. Right click to pop up the context menu. Click Edit (or double click the selected task).

6. Remove Scheduled Task

6.1 Remove Custom Task

1. Select Common Task in the left pane. Select a task to remove in the right pane. Right click to pop up the context menu. Click Delete.

6.2 Remove One Time Task

1. Select Oneshot Task in the left pane. Select a task to remove in the right pane. Right click to pop up the context menu. Click Delete.

6.3 Remove Predefined Task

1. Select a schedule type under Predefine Task in the left pane. Select a task to remove in the right pane. Right click to pop up the context menu. Click Delete.

6.4 Remove User Task

1. Select a user name under User in the left pane. Select a task to remove in the right pane. Right click to pop up the context menu. Click Delete.

7. Schedule Predefined Task

7.1 Schedule a Predefine Task

1. On Action menu, click Set to pop up the configuration dialog.

Note:

If a certain type of predefined task cannot be edited, there is currently no predefined tasks under this group, such as daily.

8. Configure Task Scheduler

8.1 Configure Task Scheduler

1. On Action menu, click User to show the user setting dialog.

Note:

Only root can use user management to enable other users to run the program.
